chs defence

I am not exactly sure what Mr Casillas was looking for. A few thoughts of mine about Spurgeon's Defence of Calvinism: Spurgeon generally wrote popularly as opposed to polemically. Spurgeon is certainly a lot easier to read than John Calvin or John Owen or the likes of other great Calvinists like RL Dabney, any of the Hodges or BB Warfield. Unless I am mistaken, Spurgeon's Defence of Calvinism appeared first in his biography, which originally ran to four volumes but was later edited down by the Banner of Truth Trust to two volumes.  The edited BOT volumes gladly retained the whole article.  Again, this points to a popular style of writing rather than the polemical. However, Spurgeon was no lightweight and spoke highly of the Calvinist Confessions of Faith, including the Westmnster Confession of Faith as well as reprinting the Baptist Confession of 1689, the forerunner of the Calvinistic Hampshire Confession so beloved of American Baptists. He also recommended the reading of Calvin's Institutes. As will be seen from the links below, Spurgeon did indeed champion the cause of 5 point Calvinism. See particularly his own sermons on the various points of Calvinism.
