RC Stuff in the post

I got some RC literature twice sent to me unsolicited last week in the post. In the accompanying notes, the sender - a certain Kevin Mathews - describes himself as a Catholic Ecumenist who basically wants to educate "Protestant Christians" about what the Roman Catholic church really believes. There was no address in either notes. The parcels were both posted in the UK and so I assume that the sender resides in these parts.

In the first parcel, I got quite a lot of A4 pages on various Romish subjects, taken mostly from the internet. Then 2-3 days later, I got two brand RC apologetic books, (brand new) namely "Does the Bible Really Say That?" by Patrick Madrid and "What Catholics Really Believe" by Karl Keating.

From an evangelist's point of view, I think it is very important that we understand just exactly what Rome actually does believe if we are going to go after Roman Catholics and seek to bring them to saving faith in Jesus Christ. We have no right to approach someone in the name of the Lord Jesus (who proclaimed Himself to be "the Truth") and start loading them with things they don't believe. At best, it is shoddy because we obviously haven't bothered doing our homework. So these books will provide a useful part of the armory of this gospel preacher. I can't see me keeping the A4 pages as they are hardly inspiring to read, but the two books are well presented and easier on the eye, even if full of heresy. I will put them beside the Catholic Catechism and the other Roman books I have on my shelf.

  1. I always think it's interesting when folks refer to themselves as ecumenists. Because when it comes down to it, they don't want to come to our churches even though we "all believe the same thing." They want us to come to THEIR churches. Whether it is the RC's or the Mormons, or whoever. They pretend to believe as we do but they don't want to give up their religion, they just want to try and pull the wool over our eyes. We're both right apparently, it's just that they are more right than we are?

  2. Exactly. For all her ecumenism, the RC Church still had their Year (or whatever time) of Evangelism and they didn't stop short of the Protestants. #NotFooled
